Berridale is a serene rural village in the Snowy Mountains region of New South Wales, offering a peaceful escape with easy access to alpine adventures. Surrounded by rolling farmland and snow-capped peaks in winter, it's a gateway to outdoor pursuits while maintaining a quiet, authentic character. The village itself has a handful of cafés and a general store, making it a convenient base for exploring the high country.
Highlights & What to See
- Snowy Mountains scenery – Drive the Alpine Way for breathtaking views of Mount Kosciuszko and the surrounding national park, especially stunning in autumn when the leaves turn gold.
- Fishing on the Snowy River – Cast a line in the pristine waters for brown and rainbow trout; the river runs right past the village.
- Berridale Historic Walking Trail – Explore the town's heritage with a self-guided walk past old stone buildings, including the 1860s St Aidan's Church.
- Nearby ski resorts – In winter, Berridale is a quiet, affordable alternative to staying at Perisher or Thredbo, both a 30-minute drive away.
- Kosciuszko National Park – Hike to Australia's highest peak, spot wild brumbies, or simply soak in the alpine landscapes year-round.
Suggested Time to Spend
Berridale works well as a 1–2 night stopover. If you're skiing, spend 2–3 nights here to avoid the crowds and cost of resort accommodation. In summer, a single night is enough to enjoy the river and a walk, but you could easily stretch it to two if you're hiking in the national park. The village is small, so most of your time will be spent exploring the surrounding mountains.
