Nestled in the heart of the Snowy Mountains, Thredbo Village is a year-round alpine playground that blends European-style charm with world-class outdoor adventure. This compact, car-free village is strung along the Thredbo River, with pedestrian-friendly lanes lined by cedar-clad lodges, lively pubs, and cafes serving everything from flat whites to après-ski mulled wine. In winter, it's a skier's paradise with Australia's longest ski runs; in summer, it transforms into a hiker's and mountain biker's mecca. The crisp mountain air, the sound of the river, and the backdrop of jagged granite peaks make Thredbo a destination that feels a world away from the coast.
Highlights & What to See
- Kosciuszko Express Chairlift – Ride this scenic chairlift to the top of Australia’s highest lifted point, then take the short walk to the summit of Mount Kosciuszko, the continent’s highest peak (summer only).
- Thredbo River Walk – A gentle, paved trail that meanders through the village alongside the river, perfect for a morning stroll or family bike ride.
- Alpine Cycling – In summer, the mountain becomes a downhill mountain-biking paradise with purpose-built trails and a bike park that attracts riders from around the world.
- Après-Ski at the Alpine Bar – The village comes alive after dark with live music, craft beers, and the iconic fireplace at the Alpine Bar, a Thredbo institution.
- Snow Sports – In winter, tackle the famous Supertrail, Australia’s longest ski run, or explore the vast backcountry via the easy-access terrain off the Karelina and Antons lifts.
Suggested Time to Spend
Thredbo is best enjoyed over a long weekend or a full week, especially if you’re keen to ski or explore the backcountry. For a summer visit, allow at least two full days: one for the Kosciuszko hike and chairlift, another for mountain biking or river walks. In winter, three to five days gives you time to ski different areas and enjoy the village atmosphere. The village is compact, so you can easily park your car for the entire stay and get around on foot.
