Cotter Avenue is a leafy, tranquil stretch along the Cotter River in the Canberra Nature Park, just a short drive from the city centre. It’s the gateway to the Cotter Dam and the surrounding pine forests, offering a refreshing escape into nature with excellent swimming, picnicking, and bushwalking opportunities. The area is popular with locals for its cool, clear river pools and abundant birdlife, making it a perfect half-day trip from Canberra.
Highlights & What to See
- Cotter Dam Lookout – Walk across the top of the dam for sweeping views of the reservoir and surrounding hills.
- River Swimming – Plunge into the deep, clear pools of the Cotter River, especially near the picnic area – a summer favourite.
