Binalong is a tiny, historic village in the rolling hills of New South Wales, about 40 minutes north-west of Canberra. Its main claim to fame is as the former home of the bushranger Ben Hall, whose grave lies in the local cemetery. With a population barely topping 200, Binalong offers a quiet, authentic slice of Australian rural history, with a few well-preserved 19th-century buildings and a lovely pub that serves as the heart of the community. It's a perfect short detour for history buffs or anyone seeking a peaceful countryside wander.

Suggested Time to Spend

Binalong is a brief stop – allow 30 minutes to an hour to see the grave and wander the main street. If you have time for a meal or a drink at the Royal Hotel, budget another hour. It's best combined with a half-day or day trip from Canberra or as a quick break while driving between Canberra and Young.
