Bells Line of Road is a scenic alternative to the Great Western Highway, winding through the northern Blue Mountains. This historic route offers fewer crowds, lush rainforest, and a sense of discovery as you traverse from Richmond to Lithgow. It’s a road trip lover’s dream, with lookouts, gardens, and orchards tucked into the valley.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Allow a full day to drive the route (about 50 km) with stops. Start early from Richmond, spend a couple of hours at Mount Tomah, then meander through Bilpin for lunch. Afternoon visits to Mount Wilson and the Zig Zag Railway round it out. If you’re a keen walker, add a day to explore Wollemi’s trails.
