Yorke Peninsula

Jutting into the Spencer Gulf and Gulf St Vincent like a crooked finger, the Yorke Peninsula is South Australia's unsung coastal gem. This is a place of startlingly empty beaches, historic copper-mining towns, and some of the best seafood in the state. The pace is unhurried – think coastal walks, fishing jetties, and quiet campsites where the loudest sound is the crash of waves. For self-drivers, it's a loop of discovery: you can circle the peninsula in a few days, stopping at national parks, heritage pubs, and farmers' markets along the way.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

To fully appreciate the Yorke Peninsula, allow at least three to four days. This gives you time to explore the main towns, hike in Innes National Park, and indulge in seafood along the way. If you're short on time, a two-day blitz can cover the highlights: base yourself in Marion Bay for the national park and spend a day visiting Moonta and the copper coast. For a more leisurely trip, add a day for kayaking, fishing, or simply relaxing on a quiet beach.
