Stretching across eastern Nevada's high desert, White Pine County is a land of dramatic contrasts where sagebrush plains give way to the towering peaks of the Snake Range. This is genuine, off-the-beaten-path America, home to Great Basin National Park, historic mining towns, and some of the darkest skies in the country. For travellers who crave solitude and raw natural beauty, White Pine County offers an unforgettable journey into the heart of the Basin and Range.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

For a meaningful visit, plan at least two to three days. Spend the first day exploring Great Basin National Park: take a cave tour in the morning, then drive the Wheeler Peak Scenic Road and tackle a short hike. The second day can be spent in Ely – ride the steam train, wander the museums, and soak up the Wild West atmosphere. If you have a third day, consider a scenic drive on the Loneliest Road in America (US-50) or a side trip to the ghost town of Cherry Creek. Summer and early fall offer the best weather, but spring and autumn provide fewer crowds and excellent hiking conditions.
