Two Peoples Bay Nature Reserve, on Western Australia's south coast near Albany, is a sanctuary of pristine beaches, granite headlands, and heathland that shelters one of the world's rarest birds. This is a place where conservation meets raw coastal beauty, offering a genuinely wild escape that feels a world away from the tourist trail.
Highlights & What to See
- Little Beach – A dazzling crescent of white sand lapped by turquoise water, often rated among Australia's best beaches. The gentle waves and sheltered bay make it perfect for swimming and snorkelling.
- Noisy Scrub-bird Trail – A short, easy walk through heath and scrub where you might hear (or even spot) the critically endangered noisy scrub-bird. Dawn and dusk are best for birdwatching.
- Two Peoples Bay Lookout – A short climb rewards you with panoramic views over the bay, the granite outcrops of Mount Gardner, and the Southern Ocean.
- Granite Skywalk – A thrilling walk along a granite outcrop with a suspended walkway and ladder that leads to a platform with dizzying views over the reserve and coastline.
- Gardner Lake & Moates Lake – These freshwater lakes behind the dunes are important wetlands, home to waterbirds and surrounded by flowering heath in spring.
Suggested Time to Spend
Plan for at least half a day to fully experience Two Peoples Bay. Arrive early to walk the Noisy Scrub-bird Trail before the heat of the day, then spend the morning swimming and relaxing at Little Beach. After lunch, tackle the Granite Skywalk (allow 1–1.5 hours return) and finish with the lookout. If you're a keen birdwatcher or hiker, a full day lets you explore the longer trails and quieter corners.
