Tuncurry is a relaxed coastal town on the mid-north coast of New South Wales, known for its wide, uncrowded beaches and the scenic Wallamba River. It's the quieter sibling of Forster, just across the bridge, offering a more laid-back vibe with excellent fishing, boating, and bushwalking opportunities. The town's name comes from an Aboriginal word meaning 'plenty of fish', which still holds true today.
Highlights & What to See
- One Mile Beach: A long stretch of golden sand backed by dunes, perfect for swimming, surfing, and long walks. The northern end is dog-friendly.
- Wallamba River: Explore the river by kayak or stand-up paddleboard; hire equipment from local operators. The river is also great for fishing, with flathead and bream common.
- Tuncurry Rock Pool: A protected ocean pool at the southern end of One Mile Beach, ideal for safe swimming at any tide.
- Boomerang Beach: A quieter, patrolled beach just south of town, popular with families and surfers.
- Tony's Fishing Charters: Join a local fishing charter for estuary or offshore fishing – a quintessential Tuncurry experience.
- Forster-Tuncurry Golf Club: A scenic 18-hole course overlooking the ocean, open to visitors.

If you have a week, combine Tuncurry with Forster and the surrounding areas for a longer coastal escape. A half-day is enough for a quick stop to stretch your legs on the beach or grab a coffee.
