Taroko National Park is one of Taiwan's most spectacular natural wonders, a dramatic marble-walled gorge carved by the Liwu River. The sheer cliffs, turquoise waters, and lush subtropical vegetation create a landscape that feels almost otherworldly. This is a place for hikers, nature lovers, and anyone who appreciates raw geological beauty. The park is easily accessible from Hualien City, making it a must-do on any eastern Taiwan itinerary.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors spend a full day exploring the park, which allows time for two or three short to moderate hikes plus stops at the main viewpoints. If you have only half a day, focus on the Shakadang Trail and the Swallow Grotto. For serious hikers, two days gives you time to tackle the Zhuilu Old Trail (permit required) or explore deeper into the park. Start early to avoid crowds and the midday heat.
