Taroko Gorge, a breathtaking marble-walled canyon on Taiwan's east coast, is one of Asia's most dramatic natural wonders. Carved by the Liwu River over millions of years, this 19-kilometer-long chasm offers vertiginous cliffs, turquoise waters, and lush subtropical forest. It's a must for hikers, nature lovers, and anyone seeking jaw-dropping scenery.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors spend a full day (8–10 hours) exploring the main trails and viewpoints. If you're short on time, a half-day (4–5 hours) allows you to hit the highlights: Shakadang Trail, Eternal Spring Shrine, and Swallow Grotto. For hikers, two days let you tackle longer trails like the Zhuilu Old Trail (requires a permit) and the Dali Datong area. Self-drive is ideal for flexibility, but public buses run from Xincheng Station.
