Once a sprawling tobacco factory, Songshan Cultural Creative Park in Taipei has been reborn as one of the city’s most vibrant hubs for art, design, and culture. The beautifully preserved industrial architecture—with its high ceilings, exposed brick, and timber trusses—now houses galleries, studios, concept stores, and cafés. It’s a place where you can easily while away a few hours browsing cutting-edge exhibitions, watching artisans at work, or simply soaking up the creative energy over a flat white in a sun-drenched courtyard.
Highlights & What to See
- Main Factory & Tobacco Warehouse – Explore the cavernous former production halls, now used for world-class exhibitions and Taipei Design City showcases. The contrast between raw industrial bones and sleek contemporary design is striking.
- Taiwan Design Museum – Housed within the park, this museum offers a deep dive into Taiwanese design innovation, from furniture and fashion to graphic design and architecture.
- Songyan Marketplace – A weekend market where local designers and artisans sell everything from handmade ceramics and jewellery to limited-edition prints and organic teas. Perfect for unique souvenirs.
- Barista Coffee & Café Scene – Don’t miss the park’s specialty coffee shops, such as the acclaimed Simple Kaffa (inside the main building) or Sunset & Vine for a relaxed afternoon break.
- Cultural & Craft Workshops – Sign up for a hands-on session in leatherworking, pottery, or indigo dyeing at one of the resident studios – a memorable way to connect with Taiwan’s craft traditions.
Suggested Time to Spend
Set aside at least half a day (3–4 hours) to fully appreciate the park. Start with the main exhibition halls, then wander the outdoor corridors and pop into the design shops. If you’re visiting on a weekend, the market can easily add another hour. For a relaxed pace, combine your visit with lunch or afternoon tea at one of the on-site cafés. The park is also beautifully lit at dusk, making it a lovely spot for an early evening stroll.
Nearby Areas Worth Combining

- Da’an Forest Park – A 15-minute walk or quick metro hop away, this leafy oasis is ideal for a quiet escape after the urban buzz of the park.
- Yongkang Street – Famous for its food scene, especially the legendary Din Tai Fung dumplings. It’s a 20-minute walk or short taxi ride from Songshan.
- Raohe Night Market – One of Taipei’s oldest night markets, a 15-minute walk north. Come hungry for pepper buns, grilled squid, and bubble tea.
