Every Sunday, the tree-lined Praça General Osório in Ipanema transforms into a vibrant open-air market known as the Hippie Fair (Feira Hippie de Ipanema). Since the 1960s, this iconic fair has been a showcase for local artisans, offering everything from hand-painted canvases and leather goods to gemstone jewelry and Brazilian souvenirs. The atmosphere is electric with live samba and bossa nova music, the scent of grilled cheese and fresh coconut water, and a kaleidoscope of colors from the stalls. It's a must-visit for anyone wanting to experience Rio's creative soul and pick up a unique memento.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Plan for at least 2–3 hours to wander the fair at a leisurely pace. It's best to go in the morning (around 9am–1pm) when it's cooler and less crowded. Combine it with a stroll along Ipanema Beach and a late lunch at one of the nearby juice bars or bistros for a classic Rio Sunday.
