Rio de Janeiro Cristo Redentor

Rising 710 metres above the city atop Corcovado Mountain, the colossal Art Deco statue of Christ the Redeemer (Cristo Redentor) is Rio de Janeiro’s most iconic landmark. With arms stretching 28 metres wide, the soapstone-and-concrete figure surveys the sprawling city, Sugarloaf Mountain, and Guanabara Bay. A journey here is as much about the ride up through the Tijuca Forest as the breathtaking panorama from the summit.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Allocate at least half a day: 2–3 hours for the round trip from Rio’s centre, including the train ride, queue time, and 30–45 minutes on the summit. For a more relaxed experience, combine with a morning hike in Tijuca or an afternoon at Copacabana. Avoid weekends and holidays when queues can stretch over an hour.
