Nightcap National Park is a lush, subtropical rainforest sanctuary in northern New South Wales, part of the Gondwana Rainforests World Heritage Area. It's a haven for hikers, birdwatchers, and anyone craving immersion in ancient, fern-filled valleys, crystal-clear creeks, and dramatic volcanic landscapes. The park feels refreshingly uncrowded compared to more famous spots, offering a genuine wilderness experience just a short drive from Byron Bay and the coast.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Plan a full day to explore the park properly. Most visitors spend 3–4 hours hiking to Protesters Falls and doing a shorter walk, but if you want to tackle the Nightcap Range Walk or explore multiple lookouts, allocate 6–8 hours. Early morning is best for wildlife sightings (including pademelons and brush turkeys) and to avoid afternoon storms in summer.
