Murray Sunset National Park is a vast, remote wilderness in northwestern Victoria, where the Mallee's red sand dunes, salt lakes, and ancient river red gums create a starkly beautiful landscape. This park is a haven for solitude seekers, birdwatchers, and those fascinated by the outback's resilient ecosystems. Its name hints at the spectacular sunsets that paint the sky over Pink Lakes, but there's far more to discover—from Aboriginal history to rare wildlife like the Malleefowl.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Given the park's size and remote nature, plan for at least a full day to drive the main tracks and see the highlights. For a deeper experience, two to three days allow for overnight camping, early-morning wildlife walks, and sunset photography at the Pink Lakes. The park is best visited in cooler months (April to October); summer temperatures can be extreme, and many tracks become impassable after rain. A high-clearance 4WD is essential for most routes.
