Rising 1250 metres above the Yarra Valley, Mount Donna Buang is a cool-climate escape just 90 minutes from Melbourne. This forested peak offers year-round appeal — snow in winter, wildflowers in spring, and spectacular views from its summit lookout. The drive up through towering mountain ash and myrtle beech is an attraction in itself, and the summit's 360-degree panorama takes in the Yarra Valley, the Dandenongs, and on clear days, the Melbourne skyline.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors spend a half-day exploring the summit area and one or two short walks. If you want to include the Redwood Forest and a longer hike like the 10 km summit circuit, set aside a full day. Winter snowplay can eat up a few hours, so arrive early to secure a parking spot near the snow area. The drive from Melbourne is about 1.5 hours, so you can easily do this as a day trip.
