Minnamurra Rainforest Centre is a lush pocket of ancient Gondwana rainforest in Budderoo National Park, just a short drive inland from Kiama on the NSW South Coast. The centre features a network of elevated boardwalks that wind through towering palm trees, giant ferns, and trickling creeks, offering an immersive walk through one of Australia’s most accessible subtropical rainforests. It’s a serene retreat for nature lovers, birdwatchers, and families, with the centre providing informative displays about the ecosystem and local Indigenous heritage.
Highlights & What to See
- Minnamurra Rainforest Walk – A 2.6 km loop on elevated boardwalks that takes you through the heart of the rainforest, past waterfalls and over the Minnamurra River. Look for lyrebirds, satin bowerbirds, and the occasional swamp wallaby.
- Minnamurra Falls – A stunning waterfall at the end of the walk, especially impressive after rain. The viewing platform offers a perfect photo opportunity.
- Visitor Centre – Interactive displays explain the rainforest’s ecology, the role of fire, and the area’s significance to the Wodi Wodi people. Pick up a map and check for guided walks.
- Picnic Areas & Lookouts – Several shaded picnic spots near the centre, plus a lookout over the forest canopy for a different perspective.
Suggested Time to Spend
Allow at least 2–3 hours to complete the main rainforest walk at a leisurely pace, including time to stop at the falls and explore the visitor centre. If you want to extend your visit, bring a picnic and enjoy the tranquil setting. The walk is relatively flat and suitable for most fitness levels, though it can be slippery after rain. Combine it with a morning at Kiama or Jamberoo for a full day out.
