Maipu Wine Region

Just a short drive from Mendoza's city centre, the Maipú Wine Region offers a laid-back, authentic taste of Argentine wine culture without the crowds of the more famous Luján de Cuyo. This sunbaked valley is the birthplace of Malbec in Argentina, and its historic bodegas – many still family-run – invite you to wander vine-shaded courtyards, taste robust reds straight from the barrel, and learn about the region's Italian immigrant heritage. Beyond wine, you'll find olive oil mills, craft breweries, and a slow pace of life that makes it perfect for a relaxed self-drive day trip.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors find a full day (about 6–8 hours) ideal for exploring Maipú. Start mid-morning with a visit to two or three bodegas, break for lunch at a winery restaurant or a parrilla in town, then spend the afternoon on a relaxed bike tour or olive oil tasting. If you're a serious wine enthusiast, you could easily stretch it to two days, staying overnight at a vineyard lodge and adding a visit to a nearby craft brewery.
