Long Beach is a serene coastal escape on the NSW South Coast, known for its sweeping stretch of golden sand, gentle waves, and a laid-back village atmosphere that feels a world away from the city. This is where you come to unwind, walk for miles along the shore, and soak up classic Australian beach culture without the crowds.
Highlights & What to See
- The Main Beach – A stunning 5 km arc of sand backed by dunes and coastal scrub, perfect for swimming, surfing, or simply strolling at sunset. The southern end is patrolled in summer.
- Long Beach Pelican Feeding – Daily at the beachfront, local volunteers feed a flock of pelicans – a quirky, family-friendly spectacle that’s become a beloved tradition.
- Broulee Island Nature Reserve – A short drive south, this reserve offers a walking track around the island with panoramic ocean views, rock platforms, and chances to spot whales (June–November).
- Eurobodalla Regional Botanic Garden – Just inland, these gardens showcase native Australian plants in beautiful bush settings, with walking trails and picnic areas.
- Local Cafés & Seafood – Grab a flat white at the Long Beach General Store or fresh fish and chips from the takeaway; the area is also known for its oysters from the Clyde River.
Suggested Time to Spend
Most travellers spend a relaxed day or two here as part of a South Coast road trip. Arrive mid-morning to enjoy a beach walk and coffee, then explore Broulee Island or the botanic garden in the afternoon. If you’re staying overnight, you’ll catch a spectacular sunset over the ocean. For a longer stay, three days allow you to truly slow down and explore nearby national parks.
