Lombok is Indonesia's serene alternative to Bali, offering dramatic volcanic landscapes, pristine white-sand beaches, and a rich Sasak culture. With the mighty Mount Rinjani as its centrepiece, this island is a paradise for hikers, surfers, and those seeking a slower pace of life. The Gili Islands, just off the northwest coast, provide a classic tropical escape with turquoise waters and no motorised traffic.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Spend at least 5–7 days to do justice to Lombok's diversity. Dedicate 2–3 days for a Rinjani trek (or a shorter day hike to the waterfalls), 2–3 days island-hopping in the Gilis, and a couple of days exploring the southern beaches and Sasak villages. If you're short on time, prioritise either the Gilis or Rinjani – both require a full day each. Lombok is best experienced at a relaxed pace; avoid rushing between spots.
