La Baule Beach, a magnificent 12-kilometre arc of fine golden sand on France's Atlantic coast, is one of Europe's most glamorous seaside resorts. With its elegant Belle Époque villas, pine-fringed promenade and calm, gently shelving waters, it offers a sophisticated yet relaxed escape. The beach is the centrepiece, but the town of La Baule-Escoublac also boasts a lively market, excellent seafood restaurants and a chic casino.
Highlights & What to See
- La Baule Beach itself – Stroll, swim or sunbathe along the pristine 12-km stretch; the water is shallow and safe for families.
- Promenade de Mer – A palm-lined walkway perfect for cycling or rollerblading, with sea views and access to beach clubs.
- La Baule Market (Marché de La Baule) – Held daily in the town centre, it's a feast of local produce, from oysters to salt-marsh lamb.
- Aquabaule – A seawater swimming pool complex with slides and wave machines, great for kids.
- Parc des Dryades – A lush botanical garden with exotic plants, a Japanese garden and a mini-golf course.
Suggested Time to Spend
Two to three days is ideal to fully appreciate La Baule Beach and its surroundings. Spend the first day relaxing on the sand and exploring the promenade; use the second day for the market, a bike ride to the nearby salt marshes of Guérande, and an evening at one of the beachfront restaurants. If you have a third day, venture further afield to the medieval town of Guérande or the wild coast of Le Croisic.
