Ingham is a laid-back sugar-town in North Queensland, cradled by lush cane fields and the towering peaks of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. With a strong Italian-Australian heritage, it offers a slice of authentic regional life, fantastic waterfalls, and a gateway to the rugged national parks of the Hinchinbrook region. The town’s main drag, Lannercost Street, is lined with historic pubs and bakeries, while the nearby national parks promise some of the best swimming and hiking in the north.
Highlights & What to See
- Wallaman Falls – Australia’s single-drop waterfall plunges 268 m into a deep gorge; the viewing platform and walk to the base are unforgettable.
- Tyto Wetlands – A birdwatcher’s paradise with walking trails and boardwalks through paperbark swamps; look for jabirus and magpie geese.
- Ingham Heritage Trail – Self-guided walk past historic buildings like the 1882 court house and the Italian-inspired St Patrick’s Church.
