Imagine stepping onto a remote island where time slows down, the air smells of sea salt and wild herbs, and the only sounds are waves lapping against ancient rock formations. Tung Ping Chau, part of Hong Kong's UNESCO Global Geopark, is a geological wonderland of sedimentary rock layers, sea caves, and dramatic cliffs – a world away from the city's neon buzz.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors spend a full day on Tung Ping Chau – arrive on the morning ferry from Ma Liu Shui, hike the 6-km loop trail (about 3 hours at a leisurely pace), snorkel at Kau Lau Wan, and catch the late afternoon ferry back. If you want to stay overnight, there are a few basic guesthouses, but book well in advance. The island is best visited from October to April when the weather is cooler and the skies are clear.
