Welcome to Tsim Sha Tsui (TST), the pulsating southern tip of Kowloon that offers an exhilarating collision of history, shopping, and harbour views. This densely packed district is your launchpad for exploring Hong Kong's iconic skyline, with the Star Ferry terminal, the Peninsula Hotel, and a maze of neon-lit streets all within walking distance. Whether you're here for the world-class museums, the legendary dim sum, or simply to soak in the energy of one of Asia's most dynamic waterfronts, TST delivers an unforgettable urban adventure.
Highlights & What to See
- Victoria Harbour & the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade – Stroll the waterfront for jaw-dropping views of Hong Kong Island's skyline, especially at dusk when the Symphony of Lights show begins.
- Hong Kong Museum of Art & Hong Kong Space Museum – Two standout cultural institutions housed in striking buildings along the harbour, offering deep dives into Chinese art and astronomy.
- Star Ferry Pier – Hop on the iconic green-and-white ferry for a short, cheap ride across the harbour to Central or Wan Chai – an essential Hong Kong experience.
- Kowloon Park – A lush oasis in the midst of the urban frenzy, with a bird lake, sculpture garden, and the Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre.
- Chungking Mansions – A legendary, chaotic warren of shops, guesthouses, and curry restaurants – a must-visit for its gritty, multicultural vibe (and a great place for cheap South Asian food).
- Nathan Road – Also known as the “Golden Mile,” this neon-lit thoroughfare is lined with electronics shops, jewellery stores, and street food stalls, buzzing day and night.
Suggested Time to Spend
You can comfortably cover TST's highlights in a full day, but two days allow you to slow down and truly savour the area. Start with a morning at the museums, then walk the promenade before catching the Star Ferry around sunset. On a second day, explore the backstreets of Chungking Mansions and the food stalls on Lock Road, or take a harbour cruise. TST also works brilliantly as a base for exploring Hong Kong Island or the New Territories, as transport links are excellent.
