Hong Kong Island East offers a compelling blend of urban energy and natural escapes, where skyscrapers give way to lush hiking trails and traditional fishing villages. This side of the island feels less touristy than Central, with a strong local character and some of Hong Kong's best coastal walks. Expect a vibrant food scene, from dai pai dong (open-air food stalls) to chic cafés, and a cultural tapestry woven from colonial history, Taoist temples, and modern art spaces.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Two days is ideal to experience the area's contrasts. Day one: explore Tai Hang and Victoria Park in the morning, then hike the Dragon's Back in the afternoon (start by 2pm to catch sunset from the peak). Day two: visit Shek O for a lazy beach morning, then head to Shau Kei Wan for lunch and the Coastal Defence Museum. If you only have one day, combine the Dragon's Back hike with a Shek O beach stop and a quick wander through Tai Hang in the evening.
