Hong Kong Island East Kennedy Town

Kennedy Town, wedged between steep hills and the northwestern tip of Hong Kong Island, has shed its gritty past to become one of the city's most character-rich neighbourhoods. Its narrow streets are a jumble of old tenement blocks, hip coffee shops, and seafood stalls, all with the South China Sea as a backdrop. The area rewards wandering: one minute you're peering into a traditional dried-seafood shop, the next you're sipping a flat white in a minimalist café. The recent extension of the MTR has made it even easier to explore, but the real charm lies in the pockets of old Hong Kong that still thrive here.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Half a day is enough to soak up Kennedy Town's atmosphere – start with a morning market wander, lunch at a local cha chaan teng, then an afternoon hike in Lung Fu Shan. If you want to linger over coffee and people-watch, give it a full day. The area is compact, so you can easily combine it with a visit to the nearby attractions of Sai Ying Pun or Sheung Wan.
