Fortaleza Dos Reis Magos

Standing sentinel at the mouth of the Potengi River, Fortaleza dos Reis Magos is a star-shaped 16th-century fortress that anchors Natal's history. Built by Portuguese colonizers in 1598, this coral-and-limestone stronghold offers sweeping views of the Atlantic and the city's famous dunes. It's a tangible link to Brazil's colonial past, with a small museum inside that tells the story of the region's Indigenous peoples, European settlers, and the fortress's role in defending the coast.
