Daintree National Park is a lush, ancient rainforest in Far North Queensland, where the world's oldest tropical rainforest meets the Great Barrier Reef. This World Heritage-listed wonderland is a must for nature lovers, offering a glimpse into an ecosystem that has thrived for over 135 million years. With its dense canopy, crystal-clear streams, and rich biodiversity, Daintree is a living museum of evolution. As you explore, you'll feel the raw, untamed beauty of Australia's wild north.
Highlights & What to See
- Mossman Gorge: Walk the elevated boardwalk through the rainforest, stopping at swimming holes for a refreshing dip in the cool, clear water. The Dreamtime Walk with an Aboriginal guide offers deep cultural insights.
- Cape Tribulation: The only place on Earth where two World Heritage sites meet. Hike through the rainforest to pristine beaches, and spot cassowaries, crocodiles, and colourful butterflies.
- Daintree River Cruise: Glide along the river in search of saltwater crocodiles, kingfishers, and the elusive tree python. Dawn and dusk cruises are particularly magical.
- Jindalba Boardwalk: A 700-metre loop through the rainforest, perfect for spotting ancient cycads and towering fan palms. The canopy tower offers a bird's-eye view.
- Noah Beach: A secluded, palm-fringed beach ideal for a quiet stroll or a picnic. Keep an eye out for the endangered cassowary.
Suggested Time to Spend
Dedicate at least two full days to truly experience Daintree. Spend the first day exploring Mossman Gorge and taking a Daintree River cruise. On the second day, cross the river on the car ferry and head to Cape Tribulation, with stops at Jindalba Boardwalk and Noah Beach. If you have more time, add a third day for deeper rainforest walks or a guided night tour to see nocturnal wildlife. The park is best visited during the dry season (May to October) when trails are less muddy and wildlife is more active.
