Perched on a hilltop in the Tarn region, Castelnau De Montmiral is one of France's Plus Beaux Villages (Most Beautiful Villages). This perfectly preserved medieval bastide, founded in 1222 by Count Raymond VII of Toulouse, offers a captivating step back in time. With its arcaded square, honey-stoned houses, and sweeping views over the Gaillac vineyards, it's a place to wander slowly and soak up the atmosphere of southwestern France.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Castelnau De Montmiral is compact and can be explored in a leisurely half-day. Arrive in the morning to enjoy the square before the crowds, wander the narrow streets, and visit the church. Then, head to a nearby vineyard for a tasting and lunch. If you want to explore the surrounding area more thoroughly, allow a full day, combining the village with a visit to nearby Cordes-sur-Ciel.
