Nestled in the foothills of the Serra de Mariola, Alcoi is a historic industrial town in the Valencian Community that surprises visitors with its striking Modernista architecture, rugged mountain scenery, and a deeply rooted festival culture. Once a powerhouse of the paper and textile industries, today it offers a blend of cultural heritage and outdoor adventure, making it an excellent stop on a self-drive itinerary through inland Alicante province.

Most travellers will find one full day sufficient to explore Alcoi’s core sights: spend the morning on the Modernista Route and the Museu de la Festa, then the afternoon hiking in Serra de Mariola or driving the Puerto de la Carrasqueta. If you’re a keen hiker or cyclist, add an extra half-day to tackle longer trails. Alcoi also works well as a lunch stop en route between the coast and the interior.
