Oberon

Perched on the western edge of the Blue Mountains, Oberon is a tranquil high-country town that feels a world away from the bustle of Sydney. At 1,100 metres above sea level, its crisp air and sprawling pine forests make it a year-round escape for walkers, anglers and anyone who loves big skies and starry nights. The town itself is small and unpretentious, but the surrounding landscape – a patchwork of national parks, caves and trout streams – rewards those who linger.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Oberon works well as a two-night stop on a Blue Mountains or Southern Highlands itinerary. One full day is enough to explore Jenolan Caves, Mayfield Garden and the dam, while a second day allows for a deeper bushwalk or a heritage train ride. If you’re pressed for time, you can cover the highlights in a day trip from Bathurst or Katoomba, but you’ll miss the evening calm and the star-filled sky.
