Windjana Gorge is a dramatic limestone gorge carved by the Lennard River in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. This ancient landscape, part of the Devonian Reef system, offers a raw, rugged beauty that feels millions of years old. The gorge's towering walls, lush pockets of vegetation, and permanent waterholes make it a haven for wildlife and a mesmerising stop on any Kimberley itinerary.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Plan for around 2–3 hours to walk the gorge loop at a leisurely pace, with plenty of stops for photography and wildlife watching. The walk is flat but can be hot, so aim to visit early morning or late afternoon. If you're self-driving the Gibb River Road, Windjana Gorge works well as a half-day detour from Derby or as part of a multi-day Kimberley loop.
