London Bridge
London Bridge is a dramatic limestone sea arch on Victoria's Shipwreck Coast, near Port Campbell. Carved by relentless Southern Ocean waves, this natural bridge once formed a double-span arch until the inner section collapsed in 1990, leaving two adventurous tourists stranded on the outer pillar (they were rescued by helicopter). Today, the remaining arch and rugged cliffs offer an unforgettable sight, especially at sunset when the golden light paints the limestone.
Highlights & What to See
- London Bridge Lookout – The main viewpoint provides a panoramic vista of the arch and the wild coastline. Watch the waves surge through the gap and crash against the sheer cliffs.
- Walking track – A short, paved trail leads from the car park to the lookout, with interpretive signs explaining the geology and history of the area.
- Blowholes – Just east of London Bridge, the rough sea forces water through narrow fissures, creating powerful spouts – best seen on a windy day.
- Wildlife spotting – Keep an eye out for seabirds, including shearwaters and gulls, and occasionally fur seals basking on offshore rocks.
- Stargazing – The minimal light pollution makes this a great spot to see the Milky Way on clear nights.
Suggested Time to Spend
Allocate 20–30 minutes to walk to the lookout, take photos, and absorb the scenery. If you're driving the Great Ocean Road, it's a quick stop that slots easily into a day trip from Port Campbell or a longer coastal itinerary. For photographers, an hour at sunset or sunrise is ideal.
