At the end of the road, where Tasmania's south‑east coast meets the wild Southern Ocean, Cockle Creek is Australia's southernmost accessible beach. This is the last outpost of civilisation before Antarctica — a place of dazzling white sand, turquoise water, and a profound sense of isolation. The drive from Hobart is an adventure in itself, winding through forests and past the Huon Valley, but arriving at this pristine cove feels like reaching the edge of the world.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors spend a full day at Cockle Creek, allowing time for the South Cape Bay walk and plenty of beach time. If you're keen on exploring the Southwest National Park further, plan for at least two days – you can camp at the basic campground near the beach. The drive from Hobart takes about 2–2.5 hours each way, so an early start is recommended. For a more relaxed pace, consider staying overnight in nearby Dover or Geeveston.
