Honeymoon Bay is a sheltered, turquoise cove within Freycinet National Park, offering some of Tasmania’s most accessible and photogenic coastal scenery. Named for its idyllic calm waters, this small beach is perfect for a quick dip, a paddleboard outing, or simply soaking up the granite boulder-framed views. It’s a favourite stop on the way to Wineglass Bay Lookout, but many linger longer than planned – the water is that inviting.
Highlights & What to See
- Swim or snorkel in the crystal-clear, protected waters – one of Tasmania’s safest and most pleasant saltwater swims.
- Walk the short coastal track from the car park to the beach, weaving through fragrant eucalypt forest with glimpses of the Hazards mountain range.
- Combine with the Wineglass Bay Lookout walk (1–1.5 hours return) for a classic Freycinet panorama; the trailhead is just a few minutes’ drive away.
- Photograph the iconic granite boulders scattered along the shoreline, especially beautiful in the soft light of late afternoon.
- Launch a kayak or stand-up paddleboard from the beach – the calm bay is ideal for beginners.
Suggested Time to Spend
Most visitors spend 30 minutes to an hour at Honeymoon Bay itself – enough time for a swim, a short walk, and photos. If you’re combining it with the Wineglass Bay Lookout walk or the full Wineglass Bay circuit, budget a half-day to include a leisurely beach stop. For a relaxed afternoon, pack a picnic and settle in for a couple of hours; the bay rarely feels crowded except in peak season.
Nearby Areas Worth Combining

- Freycinet National Park visitor centre – grab trail maps and learn about local wildlife and geology.
- Coles Bay – the gateway town with accommodation, supplies, and the friendly Freycinet Marine Farm for fresh oysters.
- The Hazards Beach circuit – a longer walk linking Honeymoon Bay, Hazards Beach, and Wineglass Bay for a full-day adventure.
- Swansea – a historic seaside village 30 minutes south, great for a coffee stop or exploring the convict-built Waterloo Inn.
