Freycinet Peninsula Circuit
The Freycinet Peninsula Circuit is a world-class multi-day walk that delivers the wild, raw beauty of Tasmania's east coast. This 30-kilometre loop takes you through eucalypt forests, along pink granite peaks, and onto pristine beaches that feel a world away from the everyday. It's the kind of trail that makes you feel like an explorer, with every bend revealing a new sweep of coastline or a glimpse of the iconic Hazards range.
Highlights & What to See
- Wineglass Bay Lookout – The classic view over the perfect curve of white sand and turquoise water; best in the early morning light.
- Mount Graham summit – The circuit’s highest point, offering panoramic views over the entire peninsula and out to the Tasman Sea.
- Hazards Beach – A wild, often empty stretch of sand where you can spot sea eagles and, if you're lucky, dolphins playing in the surf.
- Blandfordia Track – A quieter coastal section that winds through heathland and past secluded coves, perfect for a midday swim.
- Cookies Creek campsite – A backcountry camp under a canopy of she-oaks, with the sound of waves lulling you to sleep.
- Lookout Rock – A short detour for sunset views over Schouten Island and the Freycinet National Park.
Suggested Time to Spend
Most walkers take three days and two nights to complete the circuit, allowing for a relaxed pace that includes side trips to beaches and viewpoints. Start early from the Freycinet National Park visitor centre, and plan to camp at Cooks Beach and then the southern end of Hazards Beach. If you're short on time, a two-day option is possible for fit hikers, but three days lets you truly soak in the solitude and scenery.
