Sunshine Beach is the laid-back, less-crowded sibling of Noosa’s main beaches, offering a slice of pure coastal bliss. With its long stretch of golden sand, rolling surf, and a chilled-out village vibe, it’s where locals come to unwind. The beach is backed by a national park, so you get wild bushland meeting the ocean — perfect for a morning walk or a sunset surf.
Highlights & What to See
- Sunshine Beach itself — a wide, patrolled beach ideal for swimming, surfing, and long walks. The southern end is a popular surf break, while the northern end is quieter for families.
- Noosa National Park Coastal Walk — start from Sunshine Beach and follow the track north to the park’s headlands for breathtaking views over the ocean and chance to spot dolphins and whales (June–November).
- Sunshine Beach Village — a cluster of cafés, boutique shops, and eateries along Duke Street. Grab a coffee at Baked or a casual dinner at Sum Yung Guys for modern Asian.
- Sunshine Beach Surf Club — a classic Aussie surf club with a balcony overlooking the beach; perfect for a cold beer and fish and chips as the sun sets.
Suggested Time to Spend
Sunshine Beach works brilliantly as a day trip from Noosa or as a base for 2–3 days. If you’re just visiting, allow half a day to swim, walk the coastal track, and grab a meal. For a deeper experience, stay overnight in one of the many holiday apartments — you’ll wake up to the sound of waves and have the beach almost to yourself in the early morning.
Nearby Areas Worth Combining
- Noosa — just 5 minutes north, with its famous Hastings Street, Noosa Main Beach, and the Noosa National Park entrance.
- Australia Zoo — about 30 minutes south, the late Steve Irwin’s world-class zoo where you can hand-feed kangaroos and see crocodile shows.
- Coolum Beach — a laid-back surf town 15 minutes south with a great Sunday market and the Mount Coolum summit hike.
- Noosa Everglades — one of only two everglades systems in the world, accessible by kayak or boat tour from nearby Boreen Point.
