Mossman Gorge is a lush slice of Daintree Rainforest, one of the world’s oldest tropical forests, where crystal-clear water tumbles over granite boulders beneath a canopy of fan palms and strangler figs. Located about 20 minutes north of Port Douglas, this Aboriginal-owned reserve offers an immersive introduction to the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. The air hums with cicadas and the scent of wet earth, making it a must for nature lovers and anyone wanting to connect with Australia’s ancient landscape.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors spend half a day (3–4 hours) at Mossman Gorge, which is enough for the Dreamtime Walk and a leisurely stroll along the River Circuit Track with a swim. If you’re short on time, the walk and a quick dip can be done in 1.5–2 hours. Arrive early (by 9 am) to beat the crowds and the heat, especially in the dry season (May–October). The shuttle bus from the centre runs frequently, so you don’t need to worry about parking.
