Winding through the heart of Alice Springs, the Todd River Walk offers a surprising oasis of river red gums and sandy banks in the arid Red Centre. This easy, mostly flat trail follows the usually dry Todd River bed, revealing a different side of the town—one shaped by the ebb and flow of desert rains. It’s a perfect leg-stretcher for travellers needing a break from the road, or a gentle introduction to the region’s riparian ecosystems.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Allow 1–2 hours for the full loop (about 5 km) if you’re strolling and stopping for photos. Many walkers tackle just a section in 30–45 minutes. The trail is best enjoyed in the early morning or late afternoon to avoid the midday heat. Combine it with a visit to the Alice Springs Telegraph Station at the northern end for a fuller day out.
