Windjana Gorge National Park, carved through the ancient Napier Range, offers a dramatic slice of the Kimberley’s raw beauty. The gorge’s towering limestone walls, stained with millennia of mineral deposits, enclose a permanent waterhole that attracts freshwater crocodiles, birds, and boab trees. It’s a place where the outback’s harshness meets serene oasis — perfect for a short detour off the Gibb River Road.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Half a day is enough to walk the gorge loop, watch crocs, and soak up the scenery. Most travellers stop here en route along the Gibb River Road, arriving mid-morning and leaving by early afternoon. Combine with Tunnel Creek (30 minutes east) for a full day of exploration — both are accessible by 2WD in dry conditions, though 4WD is recommended after rain.
