Owen Springs Reserve is a rugged, off-the-beaten-track gem in the Red Centre, offering a raw outback experience that feels a world away from the crowds of Alice Springs. This historic cattle station turned conservation reserve is a haven for those seeking solitude, starry skies, and a tangible connection to the region's pastoral past. You'll find yourself driving through ancient river red gums, exploring historic homesteads, and possibly spotting red kangaroos or dingoes as you traverse the park's network of sandy tracks. It's a place where the silence is profound and the landscape feels endless.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Plan for a full day or an overnight stay to truly appreciate the reserve. Most visitors spend 3–4 hours exploring the homestead and driving a portion of the 4WD tracks, but to soak in the solitude and night sky, camp overnight. If you're short on time, a half-day trip from Alice Springs (90 minutes away) can cover the homestead and a short walk, but you'll miss the deeper experience.
