Nitmiluk National Park, centred on the magnificent Katherine Gorge, is one of the Northern Territory's most dramatic landscapes. Carved by the Katherine River through ancient sandstone, this series of 13 gorges offers a stunning blend of towering cliffs, tranquil waterways, and rich Indigenous culture. It's a must for any Red Centre road trip, providing a lush contrast to the arid desert further south.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors spend a full day exploring the main gorge by cruise or canoe. To truly appreciate the park, allow two days: one for a gorge cruise and short walks, and a second for a longer hike (like the Jatbula Trail, a 5-day trek) or a scenic flight over the gorges. A half-day is enough if you're on a tight schedule, but you'll miss the deeper gorges.
