The Houtman Abrolhos, commonly known as the Abrolhos Islands, are a stunning archipelago 60 kilometres off the coast of Geraldton, Western Australia. These 122 islands and coral reefs form one of Australia’s most significant seabird breeding sites and offer a raw, untouched wilderness experience. With crystal-clear turquoise waters, white sandy beaches, and a rich maritime history – including the notorious Batavia shipwreck – the Abrolhos are a paradise for divers, birdwatchers, and anyone seeking an off-the-beaten-path adventure.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors explore the Abrolhos on a day trip from Geraldton, which covers the highlights – a scenic flight over the islands, a guided boat tour to snorkel spots, and a visit to the Batavia wreck site. However, to truly appreciate the solitude and wildlife, consider a multi-day liveaboard or camping trip (permits required). Two to three days allows you to dive multiple reefs, hike on uninhabited islands, and soak in the remote atmosphere without rushing.
