Standley Chasm is a dramatic sandstone cleft in the West MacDonnell Ranges, about 50 kilometres west of Alice Springs. The sheer walls of the chasm glow a deep ochre-red when the sun is directly overhead, making it a photographer's dream. This sacred site to the Arrernte people offers a short but unforgettable walk into a cool, narrow canyon that feels worlds away from the arid desert surrounding it.

If you're combining it with other West MacDonnell Range sights, half a day is sufficient to explore the chasm and a couple of nearby gorges.
