Hidden in the lush tropical savanna of the Northern Territory, Douglas Daly Hot Springs Campground offers a blissful natural soak in mineral-rich thermal waters. This off-grid gem along the Lasseter Highway is a favourite for self-drive adventurers seeking relaxation under the stars, with the hot springs flowing into a series of rock pools surrounded by pandanus palms and paperbark trees.
Highlights & What to See
- Natural thermal pools – Soak in the main pool (around 38°C) or explore smaller cascading pools along the Douglas River.
- Birdwatching – Spot rainbow bee-eaters, red-tailed black cockatoos and whistling kites in the riparian woodland.
- Swimming in the Douglas River – Cool off in the clear, fresh water just steps from the hot springs.
- Sunset views – The escarpment catches golden light – bring a picnic to the lookout above the springs.
- Stargazing – With zero light pollution, the Milky Way puts on a show from the campground.
Suggested Time to Spend
Most travellers stay one or two nights to fully unwind. Arrive early to claim a campsite, spend the afternoon alternating between hot pools and river dips, and enjoy a campfire dinner. If you’re passing through, a few hours for a soak and a short walk is enough, but the serene atmosphere tempts many to linger longer.
