Straddling the Lasseter Highway, Cowell is a tiny outpost that feels like the true heart of the Red Centre. This is the last stop before Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, and its red-dirt character and no-fuss pub make it a memorable place to pause, refuel, and soak up the vastness of the outback. • Mount Conner (Attila): This flat-topped mesa, often mistaken for Uluru from a distance, is visible from the Lasseter Highway. A scenic photo stop.
• Curtin Springs Station: A working cattle station offering meals, camping, and a chance to see the outback way of life. About 45 minutes east of Cowell.
