Burra

Burra is a tiny, off-the-beaten-track settlement on the Lasseter Highway in the Northern Territory, serving as a dusty pit stop for travellers crossing the vast Red Centre. Surrounded by spinifex and red dirt, it offers a raw glimpse into outback life, with a classic roadhouse, a few permanent residents, and a palpable sense of isolation. It's not a destination in itself, but a characterful place to stretch your legs, fuel up, and absorb the desert atmosphere before pushing on to Uluru or Kings Canyon.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Burra is a brief stop rather than a stay. Most travellers spend 15–30 minutes refuelling and grabbing snacks. If you're camping nearby, you could linger for sunset and sunrise photography, but plan your day so that Burra is a convenient break between Alice Springs (about 4 hours east) and Uluru (about 2 hours west).
