Stanley Chasm is a stunning natural cleft in the West MacDonnell Ranges, carved by ancient water flows through red quartzite. This narrow gorge, with walls soaring up to 30 metres, offers a dramatic play of light and shadow, especially around midday when the sun illuminates the ochre and purple hues. It's a must-see for travellers exploring the Red Centre, combining Aboriginal significance with accessible walking trails.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Allocate 1 to 1.5 hours for the walk and photography. If you're keen on a longer exploration, combine it with a visit to nearby Simpsons Gap or Ellery Creek Big Hole for a full day of West MacDonnell Ranges highlights. The chasm is best visited in the cooler months (April to September) to avoid extreme heat.
