Pine Creek is a historic gold-mining town in the Northern Territory's Top End, a dusty gem that feels frozen in the late 1800s. Today it’s a laid-back pit stop for travellers driving the Stuart Highway or exploring Litchfield and Kakadu. The streets are lined with veranda-fronted pubs and the air smells of eucalyptus and red dust. It’s a place to stretch your legs, soak up some outback history, and chat with locals over a cold beer.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Pine Creek is a quick stop – budget 1 to 2 hours to see the main sights and have a drink at the pub. If you’re keen on gold panning or a longer heritage walk, allow half a day. Most travellers use it as a lunch or fuel stop between Katherine and Darwin (about 90 minutes each way).
